Caring for a Handwoven Rug Through the Cold Months
Cold months mean closed windows, heavier traffic and dry air. A few habits that keep a hand-knotted rug looking the way it did the day it arrived.
Reading the Language of Persian Rug Patterns
Most Persian designs sit in one of a few families. A central medallion organises the field around a single point; a garden layout divides it into beds, as a walled garden divides ground; an all-over repeat carries one motif edge to edge with no centre at all.
None of this is decoration for its own sake. The layout decides how a rug behaves in a room — a medallion wants to be seen whole, while an all-over repeat is content to run under furniture and be cropped by it.
